Priority: Strengthening Women's Financial Capacity

The ability for a woman to stand on her own two feet in any situation is largely predicated on the amount of support and financial strength she has. We feel it is important for women to be financially educated and able to make decisions that strengthen her ability to make choices.

RTS is committed to defending women's financial independence against policies that seek to limit economic opportunities and reinforce financial dependency.

Poverty rates for women and girls are increasing, with one in nine adult women living in poverty today as measured by the Census Bureau’s official poverty measure. And the official poverty rates for women of color are even worse: 16.6% of Black women and 16.8% of Latina women were in poverty last year as compared to 7.3% of white, non-Hispanic men. Together we can turn the tide with expanded child tax credit, raising the minimum wage, advancing policies to promote equal pay, affordable and accessible childcare and reforming federal assistance programs so women can thrive and increase their financial capacity through financial literacy & education and mentorship programs.

Project 2025, conceived by the Heritage Foundation and a guidebook for the current administration, threatens decades of progress by undermining workplace protections, cutting access to childcare and financial aid, discouraging divorce protections, and restricting reproductive autonomy—all of which disproportionately harm women’s ability to achieve self-sufficiency. RTS stands firmly against these regressive policies, advocating for policies that empower women to thrive independently, access education, own property, and make their own financial and healthcare decisions.
